So our bar recently updated the Aloha POS software to version 6.7.16. We've had several events that kick off due to football season, happy hour, etc. Now, we don't have the option to go in to Maintenance > Menu > Price Changes. Price Changes has been removed and the the Price Changes function tab doesn't exist. We asked our local reseller how we are supposed to manage our events and the "support" desk said that starting with version 6.7, that ability simply just does not exist. I looked at the rights and I do see it as an option and they said that it's hard coded in the software that no one, not even support can access this. What the heck? Can this possibly be right? How are restaurants who aren't enterprise level managing their happy hours, etc. locally?

Can any of you POS gurus please help?

Thanks!

Charles

I don't know if this change is "for real" or not but 6.5.22 still has the price change available. For lunch specials I used button pricing and setup submenu(s) with special prices on it and create a menu identical to normal except with the price changed submenus replacing. Use a set menu event that sets that menu in effect when and for what group needed and an event to set it back.

Don't know if this is harder or not (of course any change is a pain)

I'm currently testing 6.7.21 and I can still see the Price Change options.

@pinotech is yours a fresh install or an upgrade and the same question to the original poster

In one location it's fresh and in the other it was an upgrade. Same result. I know there's an effort to get users to start utilizing command center (another module, another cost, more money) but that's more geared toward concepts with many locations so they can manager their data from a centralized location. For the 1-3 location chains, it's stupid. I just get very frustrated with our local reseller because it seems every thing they do is to inconvenience the customer, resulting in additional expenses/ costs. When I look at the security settings for BOH, I can see that the ability to edit price changes is toggled off or taken away. When I brought that up to them, they said it is now hard coded that way and that not even they can access those functions. C'mon.

They are full of it. You can access all price changes from 6.7 I just checked on one of my sites. have them remote in and give you full command of your system.

Can you send me these two DBF files. I need just these two.

SECLVLDT.DBF
SECLVL.DBF

They are located in the \aloha\data folder.

I think I can edit it and resend it to you. It should allow you full control of all your BOH functions.

So I checked it out myself and Low and Behold... The ability to edit these WAS available. What they did was turn it off for their User ID called Texas Cash Register (TCR) and so then no one with lower security could edit/ change that. I looked at those two DBF files that you mentioned, Coors Man and was able to change the security levels and now the Price Changes tab is available. I don't understand the intentions in toggle this off by default and then telling us it was a programming decision from Aloha to remove it. It's a frustrating move and just creates an atmosphere of distrust for resellers who already have such a poor reputation. Thanks for the feedback Gurus and for giving me the idea to look at the security level database files.

Sometimes dealers do turn things off to protect end users from themselves- a fairly legitimate and responsible practice. But I've also seem cases where they are definitely doing it to keep themselves relevant or "needed". I've seen both cases.

The latest "shadiness" I've seen is them pushing poorly coded web pages to users main Aloha screen, that have caused Aloha manager to freeze or not respond when trying to open. More than likely accidental, but still a good reason why you don't want your dealer having too much control over your system.

Does anyone know how to show the total before the discount on the receipt and the discount? We have the sub menu for happy hour but that doesn't show how much the customer saved.

There is no way to get a true gross sales in aloha when you do a price change. When you do a
Price change that is the new price there is No discount to report.
