Does anyone know if there is a limitation on the primary and backup d channel configuration for pri service. Suppose I have 6 pri t-1's with a primary and back-up d-channel and I want to add 16 more t1's to this arrangement. I am looking for an answer as it realtes primarily as it relates to call center traffic on an Avaya PBX

My guess is that it

1) Varies state to state according to tarrif

2) Wil be somewhat dependent on what the Avaya can support.

I'd check on #2 first.

Good luck

my limit on a single dch is 23 pri's, with or without a backup, i am in a merridian switchm but the limit is set by the dms 100 central office switch. i am running 12 with a single dch and bdch on a very busy route without problems

20 ds1's is the limit for a signalling group in a g3r. Personally, I would seperate them into 2 trunk groups from the lec anyway to get 4 D channels for some greater redundancy.

i agree with that, never put all your voice on one d with a backup.. if the pri with the primary fails, the switchover to the backup could take several minutes, calls don't drop, just no new calls and the caller gets a busy.. with dual routes, that transfer time goes away, d fails, trunks a switches to backup, group 2 takes calls.. ie group 1 backs up group 2, group 2 backs up one.. my merridian has a total of 31 pri's with 20 d's.. sounds like a lot but i have a backup for each route, and routes to a lot of different carriers and remote switches

Thanks everyone...it seems that the limitations are tied to both the PBX and the LEC, or so it seems. What we decided to do was to add 5 to the existing six and then create a second group of 11 with a primary and backup. Since it is going into an Avaya G3R, lopes1211 you information followed along the lines that we thought. Thanks again to all.
