This problem needs a fresh face.

We attempted to convert an existing T1 from AT&T on a Legend R6 to a PRI from the cable company. The cable company swears they have the protocol set to AT&T Custom as we requested; they use a 5ESS for voice service. We changed our translations for the circuit to PRI as per the Hardy Wright cheat sheet from years ago - we've done this at least 25 times in the past without a problem. The module is a "classic" 100D, so we installed a Paradyne 3160 CSU. The cable company switch tech says they don't see our D channel, and incoming calls get a busy (this is an incoming circuit only). We don't have any alarms on the Legend and the CSU is happy too. I'm stumped.

Any ideas?

Try bypassing the csu by pluging straight into the 100d. This will tell you if you have the csu programmed correctly. Did you remove all the t1 programming before changing to pri? This sometimes causes a problem.

Thanks Ken - already bypassed the CSU - what T1 programming could be left after re-programming for PRI?

You needed to remove the t1 programming that existed. You cannot change from t1 to pri without removing all t1 programming. You may need to restore old backup then remove t1 programming then change to pri. This has happened more than once before and that fix seemed to work.

The question is: what are you doing to channel 24, DCH?

Verify that you are doing NOTHING to channel 24. By that I mean it can NOT be in any pool/group or assigned to anything or you WILL have problems. You might post a print of the PRI config here, so many eyes can take a look at it, and possibly spot what might be a problem.

The D Channel or DCH, channel 24 is where all communication exchange take place between the CO switch (5ESS) and the Legend. That includes all call setups and teardowns whether they are incoming or outgoing. It all happens here on the DCH.

This subject matter has been addessed many times in this forum. So you might search thru the forum for more info that can be helpful to you.
