I have 2 PRI,s and they were fine. I had the service changed on PRI 2 to a new carrier. Since the change on PRI 2 PRI 1 has been going down every morning. The span is SBC and they can not recover when down the customer has to reset system. The second span is Quest and is outgoing long distance only. Could I have a clocking issue due to the new span?

It seems to be between 6:00 AM and 8;00 AM in the morning. But when they were both SBC spans they were fine.

timing issues would normally be more often and without pattern. In fact, I doubt it would be running at all.

It sounds to me like 2 possibilites:

1. SBC had some configuration between the 2 PRIs that was not changed. They may have some failover or other feature programmed within their switch that "reloads" at that time every morning. The absence of the second span may be forcing the hard reset on the customer end.

2. The "human factor". I once had to fly out to the west coast because at 8:00 every AM, a customer network went down. Field techs troubleshot the problem for two weeks before they made me come out. The problem ended up being an employee who unplugged the switch that was plugged into the outlet in the lounge (i didn't put it there) to plug in her curling iron. Time-based problems are often related to routines and habits, something machines don't have a monopoly on.

Food for thought.

Thanks for the info.

I have been asked a question from SBC and I am not sure how to answer it. They asked me if we had set our system up to no longer use one D channel and 46 B,s like it was when it was 2 SBC Spans and to be one D and 23 B,s on each. All I know is both D,s have to be working or the spans would not work at all because they are different caarriers. Do you have any idea where we would tell the system there is no D channel on one of the spans and to look at another cards D channel.

NORSTAR DOES NOT SUPPORT ONE DCH RUNNING BOTH T1

I was told:
Yes Sir !
>> You only need one D-channel for the Norstar, make sure the circuit is ordered as NON NFAS.>>
I have not personally done it. Just input from a tech.

But in your case, with two different carriers, each would have to supply their own D-channel.

Glafaro,

Do you have a UPS Battery Back UP on the System? Sometimes the APC units we have used to cycle a various times to check there batteries and when they do this routine everday.....they will shut down some power in the system which will also through the PRI T1 cicuit down and the comeback up.....

You should get an alarm on a particular set to let you know about the network log and the event errors under Maintence in programming.

Well SBC found they did not remove the second PRI from there configuration and did so yesterday. The PRI is down again this morning and shows a loss of recieve. SBC is rerouting there span directly to there monitoring equipment. The Quest span witch is the second span in the system is running fine. I have another question. Can I change the spans to make the second span primary and the first secondary. I am asking because I was told the first card has to be primary.

Primary and secondary clocking in the Norstar system refers to the spans in the system. One is primary and the other is secondary. I have had it set both ways. It doesn't really matter which span is primary and which is secondary.

Thanks

Is there a setting in the system for NFAS

Newest status in the log are framing errors. These are new.

Thanks to all that replied to this problem. The problem was on the SBC side and has been fixed. We do not know what the problem was because they will not give us this info.

Yes they admited it. My customer just called and said they replaced the NIU. Seems strange it happened right after the change but I have seen worse. I am just glad it is working.
