Hello,
Can anyone tell me where I would verify where the NI-1 or NI-2 settings would be? I am on an Avaya CM4.0 I've looked at the trunk (disp trunk) but not seeing it..appreciate any assistance...
Fred

It is in the trunk group and the ds1 config and signaling group in the protocol setting. You set the protocol letter based on the N1-1 or NI-2 central office

On this screen shot, you'll see the Protocol Version is set to B, that is NI2
A = AT&T Custom
B = NI2
C = Nortel Custom
D = NI1

Code:
display ds1 1v4                                                 Page   1 of   2
                                DS1 CIRCUIT PACK

            Location: 001V4 Name: Level 3 PRI
            Bit Rate: 1.544 Line Coding: b8zs
   Line Compensation: 1 Framing Mode: esf
      Signaling Mode: isdn-pri
             Connect: network
   TN-C7 Long Timers? n                   Country Protocol: 1

                                           T303 Timer(sec): 4

      Slip Detection? y Near-end CSU Type: integrated

   Echo Cancellation? y Block Progress Indicator? n
        EC Direction: inward
    EC Configuration: 4

Thanks for the assist...I did a disp ds1 and am showing protocol version a on my pri's..which according to your chart is AT&T custom...I was looking for whether we had NI1 or NI2...I'll try and find what AT&T custom is...
Thanks again jordy & mojo.....

Code:
o A = Custom or NI1 National. This is typically used when your T1 comes out of
  an AT&T 4ESS Central Office.
o B = NI2, and is typically used when your T1 comes out of a 5ESS Central Office
  This is the only protocol capable of giving the customer NAME and number
  Caller ID. You always prefer this protocol if the vendor can provide it!
  ISO/ETSI QSIG. Also used for SBS signaling trunks.
o C = Nortel Custom. This is a new protocol, and is sometimes used when your T1
  comes out of a Nortel DMS Central Office. RARE. ETSI public network.
o D = NI2 ECMA QSIG European Computer Manufacturer's Association (ECMA) QSIG
  private network (supports only Name Identification and Additional Network
  Feature Transit Counter (ANF-TC))

A great teacher, does not provide answers, but methods to teach others "How and where to find the answers"
Avaya. Too little or no help? Expensive?
