Have a customer that wants a PRI and want it to emulate Line appearances like the current copper lines appear on the sets. Telco says they can setup hunt groups on the channels to hit each channel linear. I have never set up a PRI this way(normlly set B channel to route by dial plan). By setting the B channel group to Route by Line Appearance, will channels 1-10 appear and ring as if they were copper lines on each set I program the channels on?

I've done this with a regular T-1, but not a PRI. It "should" work. Seems top me that PRI voice channels had to be in a pool to work. If so, the only way to bread out the individual channels as "lines" is to do it on an operator phone. That may be an issue. With the "route by line appearance" option, it may afford other options. I'd like to know how it works out. TipHelp@charter.net

Why are they using a PRI if they want it to emulate copper channels? PRI has a considerably higher cost! Is it to route data and voice together? CID?

The channels in a PRI should land logically just like a trunk if using by line appearance. The channels are assigned a logical trunk id just like T1 or LS.
By assigning them to individual stations they should work the same. If paying for PRI, why not order a DID block and route by dial plan? A DID block of 20 or 30 is not that much more costly.

i wouldnt start playing with pri channels
it will never work the way your cust wants it to
would they consider getting with the times and go with did's.
one thing the need at least 3 or 4 diedit ext;s.
if they only use 2 now, this may be to big of a step. FRANK C

Thanks for the responses. Agreed, my customer should get with the times and route by dial plan with DID's on their PRI. The customer is new to me, I assume they went from 1A2 Key to the Legend and had their installer set it up as a square key system. They seem to still want to put the line on hold, page someone to pick up the held line. Since the customer is always right, I figured I had better check here before I tell them it is a bad idea to go square with a PRI. My opinion, it is a bad idea to go square on a Legend system period.

You can't go square on legend with PRI to begin with. You are expierencing the growth pains of a customer who started with a few lines, go used to it, and now wants the same thing to work with more lines, but doesn't realize they don't have enough buttons. The previous recommendations about DID numbers is on the money.

They should look into CALL PARK as an option to replace HOLD and PICKUP.

I have a customer that maybe thinking about this same thing because Night Service do not work with PRI in Dial Plan routing mode. (Info found in an article from Avaya)

Customer wants to have 10 lines from the PRI to be setup in Delayed Call answering mode while the rest are routed to the appropiate extensions (DID). He wants to control whether the system is in Delayed Call Answering Mode using a single button. In other words, if he turns on the button the AA answers right away, else he has 4 rings time to answer.

Any thoughts?

PRI channels are not like regular trunks. You can't isolate them for call routing like you can copper. You can set them up for night service, but there are a couple of limitations. Your operator and the associated lines of the pri circuit need to be in the same night service group. When this is done, a DID call to the main console will get the main greeting in night mode.

I am not sure what you mean. Can you explain the steps?

The problem that I am running into is that I have not been able to enter the lines under the Night Service. When I try to enter them it beeps at me. So researching I found a documentation that says that Night attendandt does not work in a PRI with Dial by Plan routing. So I am trying to find a way to fit the customer needs by using other configurations.

You can always peel off a DID from either a PRI or a T1 for DLC-type functionality by using a t/r card and looping it to LS trunk ports. You will place the t/r ports in a calling group. The calling group matches the DID. The t/r port is looped via rj-11 to LS trunk port and assign the lines accordingly. To delay this to an AA, overflow your calling group to the vm calling group and add your AA as a mbx that matches the main incoming DID.
