I just got my PRI turned on. I want my Legend R7 system to act like a key system, in other words, I want all 23 channels to appear as seperate lines on all phones. I have all MLX-28d, so there are enough buttons. MCI is the provider and they gave me 23 DIDs, but I do not want individule stations ringing with only "their " number. I want all stations to ring simultaniously, anmd all lines to appear on each station, just like if I had 23 POTS lines

I got everything programed and I have no problem accessing each of the 23 lines for oputgoing calls. The problem is on inbound calls. When I call the first number or any other number, I get a msg from the CO saying that the number is not in service. I cheked with MCI ( and they have been very helpfull and quick) and they told me that my system is not acceping the call.

Any ideas on getting this to work? MCI told me that the only way is for them to changeit to a T1, but them I will not get Caller ID

Will this work or ???

Thankx

PRI's are typically not set up this way. My guess is that Telco is sending DNIS, and you are set up for line appearances. Thus, with no corresponding extension to match the DNIS sent by Telco (if this is indeed happening), the call is returned as not having a valid extension.
I don't understand what you are trying to accomplish with the line appearances, but that is your business. My guess is that if you match an extension to the DNIS, things will work fine.

You are corrrect, I am set up as "Line Appearance" and the system is configured " Key", not hybrid or PBX.

I tend to have a lot of turnover in staff and do not want people to have to transfer calls. The person at a given extension changes tooo often, so I want a call answered, put on hold and then who ever it is for can just pick up the line as they would in a key system.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is DNIS? Is there a way to configure the Legend to do what I want with the PRI as it is now?

I think a better arrangement would be to throw the system into Hybrid/PBX, and transfer calls via Parks/Pickups. Someone calls in, you push a programmed "Park" button. Then announce that there is a call for "so and so" parked at "extension 1111 (or whatever tnat extension would be)" Then, the person who wants to receive the call will go to a phone, presses a programmmed "Call pickup" button, and enters the extension where the call is parked, and they will be connected to the call.

We thought of that, but we really want line appearance.

I can get thje PRI reconfigured as a T1. that being the case, what should I tell my provider as far as how I want it configured?

Thankx

Have you tried Pepperz's idea yet? Unfortunately I don't have a system I can play with it on yet, but if the PRI sees at least one valid extension, it might work the way you expect.

How many phones? I have seen goofy things done with one extension numbered as the DNIS number, a boatload of SA buttons, and Shared System Access buttons across the other extensions.

I have not tried Pepper's idea and I do not know what DNIS stands for.

We have 32 MLX-28d phones

Well, you have too many extensions to cheat with the SSA buttons.

DNIS is "Dialed Number Indentification Service". It's something like DID. When a call arrives for a specific telephone number, the central office sends a particular string of digits to you. If you have an extension whose number matches that string, that phone rings. If you have NO extensions that match that string, the call goes to the Operator as a last resort. You can also number adjuncts and calling groups to the DNIS number to direct calls to groups or the Auto Attendant.

Thanks for the info. My PRI is configured with 23 DIDs.

I guess I will have to go with a T1 and not have caller ID.

To make sur I don't have too many problems woth the T1, How should I get it configured?

Thankx

I don't know alot about the logic of ISDN in call processing but would it work if you assigned one of the DID numbers to a CALLING GROUP and then put the 32 stations in the CALLING GROUP? Would this work like an ACD que on the Legend?

....JIM....

See if your vendor can provide ROUTE BY LINE APEARANCE.

That is a capability of PRI, and the LEGEND/MAGIX.

I would highly recommend PRI over T1 almost everytime!
