I am working with a system that has a pri that has dropped 2 times in the last week. The first time the co fixed something and the second time there was a "d-channel inoperative" error, so we did a busy-out and restore and that fixed the problem. The system admin guy wants to install a redundant pri so the co can automatically forward the calls to the second pri if the first goes down. No problem. The issue is he also wants to know if there is some way to alert him to the problem if the pri goes down. I wasn't sure if there was a csu that might via serial port pop up on his pc. Anyone recommend a solution?

I found this on the Avaya site. Hope it helps.

Monitor MAGIX™

For proactive notification of alarm conditions on MERLIN® Communications System

Problem:
Alarm notifications provided with MERLIN Communications System do not proactively inform service personnel of System problems.

Solution:
Monitor MAGIX provides qualified service personnel with the ability to be instantly notified of system problems and errors, via email and/or SNMP.

You can also put an ALARM button on the Console.

But it gets turned on with rather minor alarms as well.
