Been a while since I had to program a PRI from scratch. I thought that when programming the B Channel group you prgrammed the ports from 23 to 1 so the lines would be grabbed in that order when calling out. But, I did that and it still is ascending. Is it how I assign the lines to the pool (meaning do I need to assign the 23rd channel first to that pool, then 22, etc)?

It is my understanding that this is a bit of a hold over from the time incoming calls and outgoing calls on the same facilities could collide. That was called GLARE.

I have looked into this several times over the years since PRI has become so popular, and I have concluded that it makes no difference one way or the other. The two "ENDS" of the PRI do their own negotiations to determine which channel to use.

Thanks Merlinman. I had the same thought. It didn't make sense why it really matters since the Magix cycles through all the lines versus always starting at line 23. I guess there is a chance that glaring could happen, but it seems pretty unlikely.

Using switch to switch trunks as a guide, what we in the Central Office usually see is calls coming in from the LEC starting with CH 24 and working up towards CH 1. When we send calls out, the programmers use most idle so there is an even distribution of terminating calls across all of the channels. This arrangement seems to minimize glare.
