I have a large Norstar system, about 85 phones and two working T1s. One of the T1s is a PRI. The other is a regular T1 set up as E&M trunks. I have a T1 card in a trunk module that is not being used.

The vendor wants the customer to change the standard T1 to a PRI. My question is how do I find out if I have the key codes for two PRIs? I can toggel the card to PRI in programming and then it tells me to disable the card. If I can do this do I have the necessary codes to make it a PRI when the carrier converts?

Lastly, what should I watch out for on that conversion. From what I remember it should be straight forward, set the lines to PRI and make sure they are provisioned. What else is there? Where do I tell the card to use internal CSU/DSU?

Thanks

once you have the PRI enabler/keycode installed on your system you do not need to purchase another, as you already found out you could chg the T1 to PRI...I need a little more info to answer the rest of your questions for ex. are you adding another full 23 ch PRI, what is your software version cause if its not up to date you must have your DTI card in the main cabinet which is where you would want to have it installed anyway you would only want to put your 3rd DTI in your TM.

Once enabled you do not need a second keycode. Norstarboy is right you need to make sure you have a high enough software version. Also, when changing make sure that you have the correct protocol, framing and line coding. These are usually different between a T1 and PRI.

What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.

Thanks guys;

My software version is 30CPG05NAT. The existing T1 is being replaced by the PRI and the card is in the main cabinet, lines 31-54. The existing PRI is on 1-23. I have a card that is not being used in a Trunk cabinet (module 8) but there are no plans to do anything with that one yet.

Let me know if this helps.

Well if your PRI is going to be in the main cabinet than everything should work fine. Check with your LEC for the trunk provisioning but typically a PRI is NI-2, ESF, B8ZS, B Channel Descending, TIA-547A, ISDN, Internal CSU On. You find this under system programming -> hardware

As everyone else has said, you won't need a second keycode. The question is, what were you using the T-1 for? You may have to change some programming to reflect the new usage. (Change Pool access- PRIB to Y, etc...)
