Could anyone tell me if the digits sent through a Norstar and PRI, via an ASM and then a Fax Server, would still be intact??(Caller ID when all is said and done)
I'm sorry, I dont think I explained this correctly- I was hoping to send the 4 digits from Telco(Via PRI) through an ASM and into a Fax Server- Should there be an issue??
Your fax server has analog ports since your connecting to it through the ASM. What is the fax server looking for other than ringing on a loop start port? Do you have the capability to use caller ID to route within the fax server?
I've worked with fax servers where you would have a T-1 or PRI card and a block of DID numbers (Example: 100 DID Numbers)and when a fax came in to the specific DID, the fax server would pickup on the received digits and route the the fax to the appropriate users email.
Using Analog ports (Loop Start Lines)there is no signalling ((like DID)other than the ringing and you would set up a multi-line hunt group that could accept multiple faxes but wouldn't be able to route to an individual fax to different internal email addresses unless you have a way to look at the CID information and route within the server?? Either way the ASM will not do what your looking for. I hope this helps and is clear.
It sounds like you're trying to get DTMF from DID to an analog port on a fax server. Is that correct? If so, then the only solution with Norstar compatibility is to get a VMI, which sends DTMF to the fax server for routing. You'll also need a a phone for each DID number.
I've documented my discovery process in several threads, so please do a search for attempted work arounds and my solution.
