Has anyone heard of this? I have a Customer who the carrier is saying that it can see these errors coming from the equipment. Its a Merlin magix 3.0. Any ideas? as usual your halp is appreciated in advance.
If the service provider says they see errors on the DS1, they should be able to troubleshoot it to find and isolate the source. Several things can cause errors depending on the type of DS1 ckt design: fiber, repeatered (copper) T1, HDSL, and some combinations of the former. It could be something as simple as a bad wire connection to a defective office repeater or mux channel module of a DS3 or OC-48 multiplexer.
If they found it coming from the customer's equipment, then you need to check and verify all wiring between the switch and the CSU and the NIU @ the MPOE. If that is not it, then you need to check and test the DS1 module in the Magix and the CSU to see if they are at fault. There are maintenance documents for the Legend / Magix switches on Avaya's website: support.avaya.com that can help you perform the above items.
Actually that does help SYQUEST. Yesterday I was sitting here really pissed off with the carrier thinking about this mess. We were out there, repeatedly, replaced the equipment and then I realized the only thing not changed was the patch cord so heres a star
Sometimes these problems can really be a challenge, but having a basic check list can be a big help to cause one to think about the issue at hand.
This is one of the reasons I am always suggesting to folks to read the manuals... Doing so can trigger other thoughts to help the situation or solve the puzzle.
