Never seen this one before.

Recently I noticed that a lot of my PPD's were missing and things that had lots of setings suddenly forgot everything they had been set to do.

So I ran Norton Utilities 8 and it told me that I have 2 System Folders and this is reccmmended against. I look on the drive and there they are! System Folder and Previous System Folder.

Wheret the h-e-double hockey sticks did that come from??? And how so I remedy it?

In Classic MacOS 9 and before when you reinstall the the OS you can install over the current OS, or ('clean install') start a New System folder, in which case the old one gets renamed previous System Folder, so you can pull out extensions and stuff you find you need.

If you are on classic MacOS I am betting someone did a clean install, I have never used OSX to know what could cause it there.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Actually, this machine is only about 2 months old and I am the Admin for our Mac department so I know that no one did a re-install. As a matter of fact, the system came pre-installed with 10.2 so...

For anyones's interest, you can set which system folder you want to use in the System Preferences by clicking on the OS 9 control panel and selecting which copy to use on startup of OS 9. That was where my machine was getting it's boot from so that I had missing printers and preferences. I told the os to boot from the Previous System Folder and everything was back.
