Previous DNS registrant? Archived WHOIS info?

Excuse me if I have stumbled into the wrong forum...

I am trying to locate the previous WHOIS info for a domain that has apparently been registered by a new party. Is this info available anywhere or do previous domain registrants get wiped out entirely?

Depending on what the issue is, you could always try asking the current owner.

I have never seen a history of this information though.

Thanks NtrOP but I ended up locating previous site information by going to archive.org and entering the URL in the 'wayback machine'. The internet is so magical.
