Preview encounters IE Javascript errors, but not encoutered otherwise

FrontPage 2003, Windows XP SP2

When I Preview a webpage I get Internet Explorer Invalid Character script error Line 2 Character 1 (but I don't see any) and undefined JavaScript variables (which are already defined).

However, when I open the webpage directly in IE 7, there are no errors.

All libraries loaded and variables defined before accessing.

Anyone experienced this problem?
Troubleshooting tips?

The FP preview does not work all that well. Since IE is loading it properly, it sounds fine
