Preventing laptop from going into standby, on a Dell Latitute CPXh

Based by my own working experience:
the problem is caused by some software, especially some
related to digital camera or scanner. it won't permit standby because it think it's still working.
you can remove them or download the latest version to see if works.
BTW: may be you use the software which is designed for windows 98 on w2k
