Is there a way to limit access to a site ( hosted on the ISP site ) useing a password to log on. This is in reference to free webspace provided by the ISP and I have no control over the actual access to the site. I would simply like to have a first page that prevents viewing of further pages unless a viewer is logged on.

Talk to your ISP, although they may well charge you for logins as it would go over an above what they wish to provide as a 'free' service.

Doing any sort of login in Javascript is pointless because the source code is visible.

Thank you for the info. Makes sense to me.

but i think there is a workaround, u can use javascript to pass variables from one html to another, make the second HTML as the login checking page, but note that the use can always go directly to the HTML pages...

roandrob ,

If your site runs on Apache (test it here: then there is a very secure way of restricting access just by uploading two files to a folder!! And it ALL happens serverside! Like what you see, right?!

Have a look at my reply to thread65-694811

Good luck §;O)
