How can you make Access from 'pretty'. I have it designed for dept with ladies users. So they like it colorfull and all. Thanks

What exactly do the "ladies" want? Have you tried to adjust any of the properties yet? It's all very simple, click on the form in design mode and pick a color from the menu. Try it out, let us know if you have any problems.

By the way, I think all users want a well-designed screen, not just "ladies".

Hi teqtaq,

Go on your form and go into design view. Here if you right click and go on Properties (alternatively: View->Properties) you can change the background colour and effects. To choose a colour click in the Back Color box, and then at the right most edge will be a small button with three dots, click this and then choose your colour.

You can change the style of writing aswell, click on a label, etc, and then choose any option from the formatting toolbar. If this is not open, right click at the top on a toolbar and make sure "Formatting" is selected (alternatively: View->Toolbars->Formatting).

I am currently changing the design of a form, and this is about as much as I know, but if I come across anything else, I will post a reply and let you know.

Hope this helps,

Andrew

:) All the users are ladies and i was asked by manager to make it 'pretty' and I had never stepped from MS standart desing of the form...
So I was thinking about stationary like Outlook had when it can be done with different colors. I did look in properties of the form but I can't see anything except color. BUT ladies use to have it like a quarter with desing on green and 3/4 of green with buttons...hmmmmmm

You might (OK, I mean you definitely will [wink]) open yourself up to some ridiculous suggestions but you could always have a talk with the users and spec. the interface around some of their more sensible suggestions as pretty to you might mean something totally different to them?

Hi,

You can also change the Tab Order, this is when you press Tab to get to the next desired box. Right click in the form in design view and choose Tab Order (alternatively: View->Tab Order), and then choose the section and order that you want.

You can add date/time to the form, click Insert->Date and Time, and choose your options from there.

You can add a picture to the form, click Insert->Picture, choose the file location of the picture, press ok, and then drag the picture around the form to the place you want it.

If I find anymore, I will post again.

have a image control in the background that fills the whole form.

then in your login or start form, have some sort of flag to determine the gender of the user.

if male, set the image control to a pic of angelina jolie.
if female, set the image control to a pic of brad pit.

I'm sure they love pink, so the backcolor would be 13408767 or maybe 16711935.

Very funny! I am laughing and crying at the same time!
Like I said no gentlemens, ladies only!

1/4 on the right is green with leaves etc (like power point design I think)
3/4 just lovely green (this is where my cmds are going to sit) Oy, vey!!!!!!!
Thanks

You can also fool with the picture property, which will allow you to use a graphic as the form's background. A word of brotherly advice: if you are working in the (unfortunately politically correct) USA, you could be opening up yourself to litigation by perpetuating such stereotypes.....

From the City Of Brotherly Love I thank you for brotherly advice! I do not think I am open to a litigation. I do work in a place with 100% women workers! Thanks

You could put a text box on the form and every day when they open it, it shows a different random self-esteem-raising, heart-warming quote from Oprah or Maya Angelou.

I agree with GingerR. Stay away from Andrew Dice Clay!

I haven't heard anyone suggest kittens! Don't all females like kittens? Because I heard somewhere that all females like pretty databases.

Heck, why not just give them all kittens and send them home? What kind of 100% female wouldn't rather be petting a kitten than using a database?

Sheesh!

I have a database of kittens and babies I could post on my web page for download if it will help......

I have a db for Football and Beer, I could send you the code but you'd have to use a Case statement if you want to add kittens and babies.

Code:
SELECT CASE txtUser
    CASE genomon
        CALL OpenBeer
    CASE TYPE ladies
        DoCmd.OpenForm "frmPrettyForm"
    CASE ELSE
MsgBox "What has this thread degenerated into?"
END SELECT

Actually, I'll just settle for the "case".
My Packers are 10-1 so far, so I have the football covered!

I support Harleyquinn's suggesstion to talk with the users.

Have a look at female oriented web templates that will give you color combinations that ladies prefer.
You could also use web buttons as buttons on your form.

BE AWARE!!
more images means more memory consumption & slow down the db
