Sorry for such a basic question but I haven't seen this on any of my other switches and I'm wondering how to get rid of it or what does it mean:

when I do a "show config" it list the interfaces for example;

interface fastethernet 0/1
switchport mode access
switchport access vlan XX
no ip address <-----------------What does this mean????

Not sure about that one. Thanks for your help.

It's quite normal (default) for switchports to have "no ip address". You might assign an IP to a port if you wanted to route traffic through that port, or to create a peer-to-peer connection with another layer 3 capable device, such as a router, another switch, or pc, and probably a lot of other reasons that I'm sure people will list.
