I keep running into this same problem. In Photoshop I converted a grayscale image to duotone, pms 281. I save the image as EPS and when I place it into Illustrator it is converted to CMYK. It seems Photoshop does not preserve pms colors on photos or vector images? It's necessary to preserve pms colors for one and two color print jobs. Can anyone help me?

If you place the duotone in AI it should separate fine. It is crucial that the spot colors you create in AI have the ExAcT!!! same name as your duotone channels. Also, try saving as a .DCS2 out of PS before you place it. BEHOLD! As Steve Jobs introduces us the latest in desk-lamp technology!
