Preparing To Copy Files

When you copy a lot of files or folders, Windows may take long time preparing to copy. What is happening during this stage? I wrote some vbscript that do the copy faster than the regular Windows copy and paste. Any reason for that?

Does your script display Progress Bars and other GUI paraphernalia while the copying is being done?
