I have a question regarding the use of color. I read the thread regarding the creating tints of the cmyk pallet. So am I to assume that if I create a new red from the cmyk pallet and give it a new name tht it will still be considered part of cmyk and there will not be a problem with taking it to the printer? Many thanks...
 
yes, that is correct so long as you don't have spot selected, if you only see a 4 colour symbol in your swatches pallet and not al little circle thing then you will be fine.
Also if you go to File / seperation setup and only see
cyan, magenta, yellow, and black in the list, you will also be fine
