This is not really a server question. I am preparing to install SUSE 8.0 for the first time on a pc. My question is what is there to look out for as far as installing ( I am refering to unexpected problems. ) Would it be a lot easier if I install 9.0? I purchased 8.0 Professional, by the way. Also, is there a way to get all the data that I am going to save off my dying pc of Win 98 ( docs, IE bookmarks, spreadsheets, ) and get the data into Linux?

One last question, is there a way to run win 98 programs on Linux?

Thank you for any help.

>>If you have Suse installed and can boot in windows mode, you can still get your data...
edit fstab end enter this:
/dev/hda5 /mnt/storage vfat defaults 0 0
Then type
mount /mnt/storage

>>Yes, Through the use of a piece of software called wine (WIndows Emulator). But be advised that not everything can be run under wine. It is something where there is a good Linux-native replacement?

thank you for the help. Do you anywhere I can read up besides the install books from SUSE that will tell me how to install? Also, is SUSE 8.2 much easier than 8.0?

Thanks

They are both very easy to install, 8.2 has had issues with certain newer mainboards (especially MSI boards). The only tricky part might be partitioning if you're not used to it. If this is not a professional server or workstation, take the defaults.
