I am using Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 on Windows Vista.

I am trying to import an MPEG2 into Premiere, and each time I try, it shows up in the window at the left, and at the bottom right corner of the screen, it shows the progress bar, and says: "Indexing..." Whenever it gets about halfway done, it all of a sudden jumps to "Conforming..." and I am left with only half of a movie file in Premiere.

My file is an hour long. When I try to bring it into Premiere, it only recognizes 35 minutes. Even if I rename the file and force it to reindex it, it still won't figure out that it's an hour long.

How can I fix this?

Premiere Pro does not edit MPEG footage at all well.

Either change it to DV AVI outside Premiere (Virtual Dub MPEG will do it for free) or use Premiere Elements.

If you search any Premiere forum for MPEG you will quickly get the picture.
