premiere 5.1 and mpeg2

I manage to export a mpeg-2 file from premiere 5.1 via avisynth to tmpgenc. It works great! i compared to the plug-in made available by ligos and the quality is almost identical...
Now I still have a problem...I would like to import a mpeg2 file into premiere 5.1c. I am aware that 6.0 is capable of doing it but I don't think that I can afford buying an update. Does anybody knows any "work around" to be able to import a mpeg2 file?

I am curious how you heard that premiere 6.0 can import MPEG-2 files? I am getting an error message that says it is unsupported. Could you give me any clue how to import these file types?
