Hi, I'm trying to install Solaris 8 on my HP Vectra with a Pentium III 700 Mhz and 256 Mb of RAM. I moved all my W2K partition to the end of the hard drive and tried to install Solaris with the Disk 1. After the devices scanning part of the installation is done and I told him to use the CD as booting device, the installation program asks me if I want an Interactive Installation or a JumpStart Inastallation I pressed 1 for the Interactive installation. After a while the following messages appeared:

Booting kernel/unix...
SunOS Release 5.8 Version s28_27 [UNIX(R) System V Release 4.0]
Copyright (c) 1983-1999, Sun Microsystems, Inc.
Configuring devices...
Configuring the /dev and /devices directories
Using RPC Bootparams for network configuration information.

The a long list of number flashed on the screen before the computer suddenly reboots. The installation starts again from the beggining and seems to be in an endless loop.

Can anyone help me??? Thanx in advance...

I am having the same problem loading it on a
Dell Dimensions 8100 system. I am not sure
what is causing the problem yet, if I find
out for sure I'll let you know, but I am
leaning towards hardware compatability
problems at this time. See below sun URL:

This may help troubleshooting alittle... The
sun site doesn't have a very up-to-date list
out though... the latest list deals with the
Solaris 8 version 07/01.

This is hardware compatibility problem..
