I worte a simple perloader that checks if framesloaded and then moves to the next scene, simple right,

why does my perloader not show the first scene until the whole movie is alomost loaded, I see loaidng.... and 33% and then bam!, there's the movie. Is this a server issue?

let me know what you think

thanks

Jeff,

Some contradiction here! What are you saying exactly?
That your movie starts playing when as little as 33% of it has loaded and then stalls as some point? Or are you just wondering why it can start playing when only 33% of it has loaded?

it acts a thou it starts playing at 33%, but I know that can't be true, my main concern is why doesn't the the first frame of the perloader display when you first access the the swf?

I'd say the 33% and play is a coding problem on my part.

check it out at

it's a 293k swf if you'd like to review the fla just let me know.

Well first check your link, just get a 404 on it!
And you can allways send me your .fla at oldnewbie@hotmail.com

Works now!
Have you sent me the .fla?

One question: are you using qt movies (or another streaming method) on the some of the items in there?

no it's not quick time, they are wildform converted avi, pretty neat, aye.

you say it's working there, strange,

I'm looking at the bandwidth profiler and selecting show streaming and I don't see anything until the movie is over 90% loaded....ever see this before.

oh, the movie's are embed in other swfs and brought in as the user request them, that's why I got to get the preloader working on 56k, I'm sure you see that wait is long, and I want them (the user) to see something.

any ideas?

the fla is on the same server same name

let me know

I ment the link worked, not the preloader!
Downloaded the .fla, will have a look at it!

Jeff,
Tell me this! You wrote this preloader? Or where did you get it?
And what were you expecting to see?
First "buffering data..." with 0% showing under that graph bar, then as 20%, 40%, 60% etc are loaded, the "buffering data..." text would be replaced by text 01, text 02 etc.?

well, let's see, the first one I wrote was based on an example out of Flash 5 from Coriolis, but when I got the endup with this problem I grabed some code from flashkit.com and anywhere else. I'm not sure which version you have now.

from what I see, the movie acts a thou all of the movie is on the first frame 270 some k and that's why it deson't display anything in the preloader until the movie is almost load...very strange....

let me know what you think

thanks again...it's nice to have you guys around just to take a look.

Well Jeff, good news and bad news!

Your problem had me puzzled from this morning. Slapped on a few of my own preloaders (that work fine usually) to your TFOB scene, and the same thing happened... Their animation would dissapear until about 93% of the movie was loaded, and I would see only a bit of the end of my preloader.
Now that curiously pointed to a problem within the TFOB scene that seems to cause a problem in the preloader's display. I then had a look at your coding of the TFOB scene and that's where you quickly lost me!
Think you should have another look at that whole coding!

Did get your preloader to partially work though, by deteling all unused items in your project's library. I can now see the bar & text from the beginning but I've lost all those pictures when I get into the TFOB scene.
Not having downloaded all thoses movies, maybe that's the source of my new problem.
Since you have all of those, you could try to do as I have done, that is delete (in a copy of your project - as this is usually not reversible!) all of the unused items in your copy's library, and see if you can now see your preloader in action.

Best I can do for now!

thanks for the insight, I think you are right, I started my own preloader yeesterday without using a new scene and still had the same problem,

So I came to the conclusion that something's wrong in TFOB.

I'm going to recreate the project today from scratch, using only the object that are need.

I'll let you know.

Still bugs me why Flash would think a the first frame in a scene with only two objects would be over 270K when all the "stuff" is really in the second scene.

oh well

wish me luck

and thanks again.

Wish you luck!
I'd have a hard look at all that attach stuff (which I've never really looked into!) and also all that "unloading except..." which I've never seen used in this manner either.
