I've got a Flash movie that contains a music player. The total weight of the SWF is around 13.5 MB. I've created a preloader for it but it does not display when the page is loading. I've tested the movie by emulating up to 500K download and it still does not work. I have confirmed that the preloader was created correctly by testing it with a smaller movie with success. Anybody else experience this problem?

Thank you!

I think that I have found part of the problem. It appears to be an issue with the "Linkage" on the audio files. When I select "Export for ActionScript", "Export in first frame" is automatically checked. Unchecking it allows the preloader to run but it stops the music file from loading in the movie. I have the preloader in it's own scene and then instruct it to load the scene with the music player once finished. Still doesn't work. Any ideas?

Use a new seperate preloader only movie, to load your present movie cleared of it's present preloader...

This is exactly the smae situation, in this example .fla of mine...

Or, if it's only because of one soundObject (with linkage set...) and you don't have any other linked element anywhere in your movie, you can uncheck the "export on the first frame" box (but leave the "export for actionscript" one checked...), and simply drag an instance of your sound on it's own layer, usually only in unplayed frames between your preloader frame(s), and the actual starting frame of your movie...

The sound will then preload but not prevent your preloader from displaying anything until it has all preloaded, which is what is now happening.

03/13/05 -> OLDNEWBIE VS FLASHK

Thanks oldnewbie.

In my case, I have several linked assets in each movie. I found a solution. In Flash MX, by default linked assets are set to the first frame. This was conflicting with my preloader seeing as it was in the first frame of the first scene of each movie. I found a app from Flexidev called Asset Mover in which you load the resulting SWF file and are able to relocate the linked assets to a frame other than 1. It worked great for my project. I'll have close to 20 Flash-based music players. It was a snap fixing my preloader issue. If you are interested, you can see more about this at
