hi,

sorry to stress you again.

i made a preloader for a (semi-finished) website. what is odd about it is that it plays perfectly when offline but it puts out some freaky numbers when online like -3348293% Loaded; 2053 of 0 kb loaded,...
i put some heavy sound file in one of the loaded films so that one can see the effect longer.

please look at it on
and download the fla on
thanks again regards

Sorry has me beat i just cant find anything wrong with it and i could not replicate the errors you have.

that is funny, no message for you, foolish values for me. man i hate it, i could cry, i've put all of the fla's into some zip and loaded it up. 'bout 850k icluding the soudfile. would you mind looking at it in context with the other files? same link to the zipfile as above regards

On me it's something like this:
"-1136600 Prozent geladen" and growing. Regards,
Dragos.

exactly that's what i get too but i can'f figure out why. i'd appreciate any suggestion. the zip-file is still onlie for those who have the time to have a look at it.
the preloader is in the file fjhomepage.fla (included in the zip file as well) regards

if i get the time later today I will go over it again. thing is i just cannot recreate this error effect which makes it damn hard to trace.

Did you ever get it to work ?
I could not find any fault but i did come across something strange.
As a workaround at one time I took out the loadmovienum statements and replaced with loadmovie into clips. All appeared to working well and thats what I expected...no real change. However when I ran traces on the clips singly and then in combination I got results that were nuts.
I am wondering if its necessary to give each clip its own preloader which then reports when its done and when all have loaded...move on.
So I guess what I'm suspecting is that Flash has problems keepimg track of what has loaded and what has not when several movies are loading simultaneously.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Well, i never got it to work online... in fact when it was offline the whole film went on in the sequence just as if there was no preloader (which is normal according to the speed it gets loaded).
Once it was loaded from an online source and i reloaded the site i got the same result.
I somehow can't figure out what you mean with "giving each clip its own preloader".
What I was trying to do was to make flash report how many bytes of each film were loaded, add this in one variable and show the value of this variable expressed in percent.
Well,... somehow i am a little glad that it doesn't seem to be my mistake.
do you think it's worth bothering Macromedia with it?
Is there a department that deals with things like that?
Anyway I am considering to make a preload-bar for each movie (one included in each), make them add 1 to a variable on level0 and when the value of the variable is as high as the number of films loaded make the film go on.
might be somehow cool too when people can see what is loaded at what amount.
what do you think?

at any rate i really appreciate that you took it upon yourself to invest so much time on the whole issue!!

I think that's worth a star! regards

by each clip its own preloader i mean just that you attach the normal code to the clip the movie is loading into. im sure you have seen this on many sites...sound downloading...text downloading.. etc.. with one contolling function waiting until all the movies have downloaded prior to moving on
straightforawrd to implement...once the first movie has downloaded it calls the second to start downloading and so on.

well i think that is going to be the most elegant solution. i just tried it in another way 'cause i wanted to make my logo rotate so that it would have spinned for 360° when all clips are loaded. now i decided (1/3 by need, 2/3 by conviction) that doing it in another way is at least as good as the prior solution.

Thanks again and have a nice day! regards
