Hello!

All my preloaders i did so far have this "bug"...and i tried different preload techniques.....for example....i made a simple preloader....just a preloader bar, a percentage text, ...no fncy aniations....but the preloader scene is not loading immediatelly...it takes a time to show up...and the preloading items are showing up after a while...and they are at 40% let's say...depending on the size of the movie.....

do any of you guys know another "great" :) technique for preloading?...we can't make two movies instead of 2 scenes?...there is such a technique?

Regards,
Dragos.

The use of components, attached movie clips and/or sounds (through Linkage), and/or embedding fonts, will all prevent your preloader (although most probably still working), from displaying correctly until all that has to be downloaded on the first frame has in fact downloaded.
Unchecking export on the first frame items and dragging unused copies of those items on your main timeline, is IMHO, a lot worst than using a new preloader only, to load your present movie cleared of any preloaders itself.
I've posted such a preloader .fla a long time ago (over a year!) in this FK thread...

You should have a look at it!

Thanks all you guys for the answers!

This answers my other post...great files thanks!

I was talking about regular movies...not the ones with linkage or components...just some content on the timeline....here is an example:

i haven't uploaded the .fla ... but if you need it i will.

Thanks.

About to hit the sack! 4:00 am here!
But do post a link to your .fla, the one for your above link, or e-mail it to me (you must still have my address, right?), and I,ll have a look in the morning.

MX format not MX2004 and zipped up would be better.

Ok Oldnewbie...i will post a link to the .fla (not that i forgot your e-mail...how can i do this? ;-) )...maybe smb else is asking this question too and may find the answer right here.

I am at home right now...i will post the link tomoroow...i have to upload it ...MX format...i made this in mx2004 but i remember that i saw there an option to export as an older format..i will check it tomorrow.

Thanks a bunch you all!

Regards,
Dragos.

That's still MX2004 format, or you're on Mac, and the file must be zipped us for us PC users to be able to open it up!

In any case, my above example works!

I'm having the same problem. I just tried a simple text preloader that says "loading..." with the dots appearing in order... yeah, first preloader. So anyway, just wondering if you could post the .fla of that "above example".

If you're not using components, attached movie clips and/or sounds (export on the first frame stuff), and/or embedding fonts, then a normal preloader should work fine.
If the above is the case, then check this one...

Otherwise, you can get a hold of a preloader only movie, that loads your present movie cleared of it's own preloader in my first link above...

I can't open the .fla of your separate preloader. It gives me an "invalid file format" message or something like that. I use Flash 5 still, so that's probably why. If you could just tell me how to make it a separate movie, that would be great. Thanks for your help.

Oh, and by the way, keep in mind that I'm pretty new to this. I can make sipmle movies, but I don't really know anythign about action scripts.

That preloader only movie will only work for Flash MX and higher. The other link I gave you should work for Flash 5 though.

Okay, well, it doesn't. I still have the same problem. I used the percentage preloader, but it still loads about 3/4 of the way before anything shows up. The movie is here:

The .fla is 24 MB, so I didn't upload that, but if you want to look at it I can fix that.

I'm very confused... any help at all you can give me would be great. Thanks much.

And this is done in Flash 5?
Then the only reason I could see it not norking, is that you have an attached sound with export on the first frame, is that the case?
If not, I'd need to see the whole .fla. What makes so big? Sounds and pictures?

Yes, it's done in Flash 5. I was trying to figure out what makes it so big, but I can't. I deleted all unnecessary objects and whatnot in the library. The only pictures/sound is that graphic at the end and the 1.5 MB music file that's imported. I imported the music to the library and it undergoes the command "start" in the 3rd frame (1st after the preloader). I don't know if that's what you mean by "attached sound with export", but that's what I have.

I'm actually considering just redoing the whole damn thing, preloader first.

Try using Save as... under a new name, that should reduce the size of the .fla. And once you've zipped up that new .fla, you could possibly upload it to your server and provide a link to download it from there.

Ok! You have actually set linkage to your sound in the Library, but without using the attachSound action. This will prevent your preloader to display anything until all of the sound has actually downloaded on frame 1.
Suggest you do the following...

Uncheck the linkage to your sound. Right-click the sound in the Library and uncheck the Export for ActionScript box. Your preloader will then display properly.

Further suggestion is to change the compression on your sound, to lower the overall size of your movie, and permit a faster load for those slow connected users...

Double-click the sound in the Library. Uncheck the Use Imported MP3 quality box. Set the Bit Rate box setting at 20kbps and the Quality setting box at Best. Uncheck the Preprocessing box if you don't want your sound to be converted to mono. This will reduce your outputed .swf by almost 80%, without that much quality loss. You can allways set the Bit Rate higher, but size will increase.
