A newbie question on preloader..
Do you know if I can make a flash movie preloader, meaning there is already a 5 second movie, and I want it to be there when it's preloading....
My flash movie (swf) is about 7mb. We use Ethenet here. I am not sure how much time it will take for people to load the movie. I already have a loading movie, which takes 5 seconds to play. My concern is that: If the loading time is less than 5 seconds, what should I do?
Not familiar with intranets. Isn't it basically the same thing as if this movie was played from each machine locally. Then you wouldn't need a preloader.
If you do, and this movie holds components and or export on the first frame stuff (Linkage), then a regular preloader will not display properly. You would need to create a new preloader movie, which would only preload your existing movie (without it's own preloader), and then be replaced by your original movie.
Run a test from another machine on the intranet to see if it does stream without breaks. If there are breaks in the playing then I guess you would need a preloader. Regards,
I guess you are right. I just tested in another machine and it didn't seem to show up the first frame until after a few seconds... Seems I do need a preloader!
If you want to try out my version of such a preloader, I have posted a copy here, but not sure if that was the latest version of it. Check this to download the latest version on FK:
Hey..Thanks for the link!!! I downloaded the file and tried it. It seemed that after I published it into html, it didn't work...do you know what could be the reason?
That fla is very big..like 100 mb...
I followed your instruction and replaced the sound.swf with my movie, and leave the first frame blank key frame. Do I have to do anything else?
The preloader movie itself is not more than a few hundred bytes... That's the .fla I want to see, not the movie's .fla you're loading into it! Regards,
Code seems ok! What's happening? You see nothing? Mind you if testing this locally, you shouldn't see anything! Have you uploaded your "esso" .swf somewhere, and used that uploaded url in the preload movie (making sure your cache is cleared each time), rather than testing this with the file that lies on your machine?
Other than that, and not knowing what you're seeing or not, and unless there's something on the first few frames of that movie that would interfere, I can't see what's going wrong.
I have to go out for a few hours, will check back when I return, but that may be too late for you? Regards,
Hi, Guess now you are on your way to Caribbean..
I kept trying on the other machines...and it didn't seem to show up...then I downloaded some other code and it worked. The whole movie took only less than a second to load. I noticed that in flash, there are so many different ways to achieve the same effect. Maybe that's why it attracts many people. I am now working in the area of web development...I feel that the top ones are always good at coding..it's more like a computer major, rather than just a software application...Just a thought..
Your vacation starts, and my project is wrapping up too...hope you have a great time!
Curious as to why it didn't seem to work? I'll have to take your word for it! Of course I couldn't really test it in your conditions, but if I had had access to your file, I would of gotten it to work. Maybe when I come back!
Only fly (Yes! No problem with that!) around 8:00pm tonight... Will leave home much earlier then that, but won't be around your latitude before 1:00am! Regards,
