I have windows me preinstalled on my computer..only have a restoration disk, no installation cd...how can i copy my os to a 2nd computer, or to a new hard disk?...thanks for help

Your choices are drive image or ghost to copy it to another drive.

You understand , of course, that preinstalled systems are licensed to the specific machine and you may be in violation of the licensing with any steps you have proposed other than to put it on a different hard drive for use in the same machine.

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

There is another method (with the same rider as Ed mentioned re licensing), if you don't want to buy ghost or drive image.

1. Boot PC with just the new disk (to be copied to) connected, from an ME boot floppy. Use fdisk to partition it, reboot and run format C: /S. If its already partitioned/formatted, just run sys C:.

2. Put this disk as slave in same PC as ME system. Boot ME as normal. Make sure you have filder options, view set to display all hidden and system files. Now simply copy the current C: drive to the other disk - except swap file. Agree the overwrite on the system files when prompted (note - this is easier done with a 2 pane file manager like 2xExplorer - or even Windows old file manager). When finished, try booting machine with just the 'copied to' drive present. It should boot as original.
Note. This installation may not work on another machine because of the drivers (it may or may not boot, as is, and if it does, it may or may not reinstall the correct drivers and continue ok. You can remove devices from device manager while its in current machine to help this process).
