Hi everybody,

through our virtual tape library we have a lot of (virtual) devices with a bunch of rather small volumes (15000 volumes á 2GB). Therefor when backing up the systems there is a lot of mounting and unmounting, what wastes a lot of time.
What I want to do is to monitor what pool is needed and pre-mount volumes from that pool before the first volume is full.
Any idea?

Environment is W2K, SP2 with Nsr 6.2 .

Thanx a lot,
Heiko Kuhlmann

You could run a savegrp -p (possibly -P, check the man page/NT includes them on the CD as HTML) to probe and estimate the amount of data to be backed up. Then you could determine potentially how many volumes you would need and handle it that way. This will not be easy, there will be scripting you need to get done.
