precompiled version of ncompress

Hi We are using red hat enterprise eddition 4 and we need a precomiled version of ncompress as when we download the source version it is asking us for a library libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4) which we do not have.

It sounds like that's the wrong way around. Are you sure the one you've got isn't the precompiled version? Normally a source version doesn't mind which version of libc you've got, but a precompiled version will look for the version it was compiled against.

At what stage of the compilation is it giving you that error message?

we got round this by using a ln -s on gunzip with uncompress
