PRECISE LAYOUT DESIGN

This is a basic question:
I have beeen designing web sites for a while and using standard HTML Tables for layout design.
Is there a more precise way to layout the content of a HTML document than using standards HTML tables?

yes, you can use css (style sheets) - the specs, tutorials, references can be found at the w3c school site - it is done to allow very precise layout design
