Good Morning

BCM400
Version 3.7

We have a requirement for an extension to be setup to allow access to a small number of external numbers only. Ideally this would follow the process of setting up the relevant external numbers to correspond to the keypad i.e. dial 1 for external number 90123456789, dial 2 for external number 90987654321, etc., etc.

We have an Avaya CS1000e at our core site and this requirement has been setup using a 'Pretranslation list'.

Although it would be nice to allow diallers to simply press a single digit, any process that achieves the requirement would suffice.

For reference the phone is for visitors to our organisation to dial numbers as part of a self-service requirement. The phone would have an instruction template adjacent to the telephone detailing the external self-service numbers and the process to dial.

As far as I know, pretranslation on a BCM system was never an option. The dial plan was tied down and any overlapping numbers weren't allowed.

I think there are two solutions that may work.

The easiest way is to make sure that the extension number is denied access as has probably already been done, but to allow it to have system speed dial capability. Assign the numbers to speed dial numbers and perhaps use a range if available from the beginning which start at 1 onwards or pick an area which has a "1" after it such as "21" or "31" onwards etc.

Enter in the numbers for each entry, but make sure that the bypass overide box is ticked as this will allow any barred extensions to dial specific speed dial entries. All the extension user will need to do is to use "Feature" "0" and the entry number.

Another, but more complex way would be to look for any spare single digit entries and set them to dial dial the dialling plan a specific number but this could only be only if your local DN's are as least a 4 or 5 digit number length as anything less would probably leave you with no spare single digit numbers to use.

Thanks for the quick response Firebird.

Looking at the options, the system speed dial looks to be the easiest for oursleves to cover in-house and from the way you describe will defintley cover our requirement.

We will give that a bash over the next few days.

Cheers again.
