Is it possible to do both pre-queue and post-queue content filtering? What I want to do is have a pre-queue filer that does DNSBL checks, and a post-queue that does additional spam and virus checks.

My reasoning is that if a sender is on a DNSBL, I don't want the message to ever get into the queue to begin with. Otherwise, I want to take advantage of deeper content filtering on the messages.

Yes, you should be able to do this. You will need to work with the master.cf file. I don't know the specifics off hand, but you will need to set it so that the incoming mail is received and then processed by the pre-queue handler, re-injected back on a different port, where it is then picked up by the normal handler. You will then need to do the same at the back end.

Take a look at the various how to documents describing how to setup amavis, which uses this technique. FWIW, amavis itself may be a sufficient solution for your needs.
