what's the best way or can it even be done? I want to pre program a system before taking it to site. Replacing an MICS so I don't have the phones here with the UCx. How would I go about building say extensions 221 through 250. Do I assign a bogus MAC address then change it when I get to site with the correct one?

Ok found a couple of phones and the answer is yes. Go ahead and program the phones with any mac then when you plug in the real phone just change the mac to match that phone.

The easiest way I've found -- goto edit nortel settings -- enable Set Based Configuration -- enter a password for Set Based Password -- program all extensions leaving the MAC address = 0 -- now when you bring the system up all the phones will have a softkey labeled CONFIG -- the user presses the config key -- enters the password -- then their ext number -- the phone will acquire its programing and is ready for use

theislandtech's method is the easiest and correct method to program Nortel digital sets. The digital sets do not have a MAC address listed on the phone set itself the way IP sets do, so programming the MAC address to 0" is the proper method.

nice I'll try that, I was using 000x as the MAC and that worked also. the only problem was you had to know exactly where where each phone was going so you could assign the right one. I like this way alot better so you can just put the phone out and enter the extension.
Thanks again

Suggestion- Before you disconnect the Norstar, do a Feature * 0 and check the I\C number. THEN when you cut the system over, the set will come up "not registered". You will hit the Config button, put in the password, and then enter the UCx extension number you want to use.
