Pre & Post backup scripts 2

What options are there for running "both" pre and post backup scripts from Net Backup Bussines Edition ?

Looks like I will be getting involved in setting this up in the very near future !!!!!

E.g.: We need to shutdown Oracle and other applications do the backup, and once complete we need to then restart Oracle then the applications.

Can this be done from Netbackup?

If you look in Netbackup administrators guide, you will see that there are client-side scripts that can be modifed. These scripts can perform anything you want, but be aware that whatever time you take, it must be completed by the default timeout period of 300 seconds. This is a global default, but you can set it to something different for the client. (client read timeout)

The scripts/commands to look for are bpstart_notify and bpexit_notify...

I have also used a different method. It makes the DBA's happier, since they have more control.

I inform DBA's that they must finish their DB maintnenance by say 2:00 am. I then perform a backup of their backup and exclude the live DB's. Our DBA's like this since they feel they are in better control of a DB restore, and you do not need some extra permissions to perform the backup.

You also don't need to purchase the extra client software for say SQL, Oracle, etc....Works for Exchange as well..I can explain this if anyone else is interested...
