We currently use Progress dbase on a 32bit RS/6000 box. We have decided to move up to a 64 bit platform while staying with AIX. One problem, Progress or IBM does not support 64 bit due to a problem with the Pragma Pack 4? I am not sure what is meant by Pragma Pack, I assume it is a Service Pack of somekind? Either way we will not be able to run Progress in 64 bit mode eventhough the hardware supports it. The other starnge fact is that to switch from 32 bit to 64 bit, it is supported on HP-UX and other unix systems, we would still have to pay as if we were changing platforms. Even if AIX could be utilized with Progress at 64 bit we would have to re-license the massive number of users we have and pay through the nose for it. Is this common?
Thanks.

From what I see, Pragma Pack is a C function.

Trust me - AIX supports 64-bit with no problems. As for the Progress licensing issues, I can offer no opinion on them.

Is it common ? Nope. Usually we enable 64-bit for applications and away they go.

What about running a 32-bit app on a 64-bit processor? Are there going to be inherent problems with this setup? I was told that we could, instead of staying with 4.3.3 install 5.1? Choose to install the 32-bit kernel and a way we go. I amnot sure how this ight affect us in the future though in terms of updating to 64-Bit.

Thanks.
Vince.
