Hello!

I have a PCI ADSL modem that I would REALLY like to get working in Linux. Being in NZ, my ISP uses PPPtoA (the 2364 version) but there does not yet appear to be any Linux support for this configuration.

Any ideas out there?

(Will be using Mandrake 8.1 very shortly).

Hi - I just noticed my typo - it's PPPoA (PPP over ATM) aka RFC2364.

Nobody seems to know anything about this so far.....?

Bummer.

Hi,

There is work going on ppp over ATM but its at alpha stage. For ATM itself - thats merged into the linux kernel source tree. You can also see --> .

However, for PPPoA there are only some kernel patches around - . For info on the latter see -->

Basically, you'd get kernel 2.4.7 source (may work with later versions - depends how much is changed) and patch it with the patch in then you compile and install your custom kernel and modules.

Not really for beginners although, in reality, it isn't that difficult in practice.

Hope this helps

Thanks ifincham!

I also found a howto at:

Which seems to walk through a similar process rather well - though it is centred around the Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem rather than my Dynalink PCI ADSL modem. I suspect that the main problem I'll have will be getting drivers for that device - there does not seem to be any around that I can see.

Again - thanks heaps - I'll be giving this a go! (I am a newbie but, this is how one 'transitions' isn't it!!)
