Hey All,

I'm curious about people's experience with PPPOE and VPNs. Has anybody run into problems? I seem to have run into problems regarding standard ethernet packet size and PPPOE standard MTU size. Amyone see this? Thanks.

I've had similar problems. I'm under the understanding it has to do with the perceived MTU size of the machine attempting to connect with another machine (web server for example) The largest ethernet packet is 1500 bytes, but PPPoE adds additional overhead to the overall MTU. I've been told some machines have a problem negotiating the MTU when it sees one of these packets.
The trick to getting around this is to simply reduce the MTU size of you machine to 1452 bytes. Add the PPPoE header and you arrive at 1500 bytes. In the past I've always accomplished using the "ip adjust-mss" command of the Cisco 827. I know there are utilities out there that can change the MTU size of you machine but I don't know any of them. Try cnet.
Good luck.
