Think I am searching for a needle in a haystack, but will git you guys a shot at this puzzle.
As stated, I have a PPPoE connection with my ISP, using and AFC (?) carrier, 256k DSL. My modem is an Aware (Efficient Streams) model X200. This is a single connection going to a dual NIC server, then out to a Gigahertz 8 port switch and crossed to an SMC 8 port switch giving me 13 ports useable with 6 systems using Win98SE, 2k, and XP Pro and others (I repair/upgrade PC's).
My connection worked great with minimal downtimes until last summer when my ISP offered this service to some of my neighbors. Since then our connections- meaning everyone using PPPoE/AFC in our area- have been up and down, from zero connection to 260k, pages not found, then hit refresh and they show up.
My ISP is aware of this and is completely baffled by this occurance, even to the extreme of running software to re-set the DSL in my area every hour. They are working with the Board of Directors to upgrade the area to use standard PPPoE without the AFC and hopefully will convince them to do this.
My biggest question is, is it possible for me to monitor my connection thru software, and if so, will it show any dead connections?
Don't know if this is actually a question to be answered or just a place to get this off my chest, but wanted to let you know there are some areas where DSL is still a dream... The test continues...
