Hello,

I am currently trying to establish a PPPoE connection on a WLAN built from 2270/2230 solution in LAYER2 config.

My Wifi clients are able to reach the PPPoE server (ping, arping, as well as broadcasted PPPoE Initiation packet) but for some reason the PPPoE Offer packet is not forwarded by the security switch 2270 to the 2230 where my Wifi client is associated.

Client 2230 2270 PPPoE Server
PADI >=================================> received OK
dropped X========== PADO (PPPoE Offer)

I did not manage to have any information on the reason why this packet is lost (no counter incremented, nothing in the debug logs ...)! I see no LWAPP packet sent by the 2270 following the reception of the PADO message.

Does anybody ever tried to establish a PPPoE connection on a 2270/2230 solution ?

Thank you !

Are you sure Layer 2 will do this ?

The LAYER2 network is based on a Baystack 450T and apparently works fine.

PPPoE is a layer2 message thus I guess a layer2 config at 2270 should do.

In any case, the PADI message is correctly broadcasted and the MAC adress of my client is correctly recorded in the MAC table of the 2270. Thus I do not see any reason why the arping (also layer2) would be forwarded and not the PADO.

Do you have any specific hint about the LAYER2 mode of 2270 ? What would LAYER3 mode make as a difference (to me LAYER3 mode only brings in some additional L3 VPN security) ?

Thank you !
