hi. i have a linux box running under 2.2.14-5
installed with RedHat6.2
the internet is accessed via a modem by dialing and running a pppd daemon. a recurrent problem is an inappropriate permission setting on some crucial files/devices so that pppd can only be run as root. a typical error message reads: /usr/sbin/pppd: must be root to run /usr/sbin/pppd, since it is not setuid-root
a related problem is with ``Temorary directory'' permission settings. This affects all attempts to use mail as a non-root user. Again the warning would read: ``cannot create a temporary file, check your netscape tem. dir. settings: mail not sent''
what files/devices would need global access to correct the above problems?
Any ideas are appreciated.
