How do I open the PPD on my Illustrator program? I have a pc and that area appears, but nothing is highlighted.

deerless. A PPD is a Postscript Printer Driver. It is not a graphics file. You use it to run a virtual printer such as Acrobat Distiller so as to be able to do, for example, colour seperations from Illustrator to a PDF file. To use it in AI 10 you go to File>Seperation Setup then choose Open PPD.

I have done that, but the screen is not highlighted. It only comes up as a gray area with nothing to click on to. What am I doing wrong?

Do you have a postscript printer (or virtual printer)installed/attached on your computer?

i was finally able to get the ppd opened in the program. thanks for your help. what i am looking for now is an original copy of the illustrator 8.0 user guide book?

I am also having problems with color sep's. I select the ppd for my printer but it still won't print the dot patterns on screens. Do I need a different ppd?
