I found the other day that a fan in our 8600 (8006 chassis) had failed, so requested an RMA under our coverage. Got the new fan tray, pulled the old ones out and put the new ones in; nothing happened.

Upon further review, I found that the socket that the fan plugs into on the backplane came out with the old fan tray. I was able to pull it off, put it on the new one and shoved it in, and lo and behold, the thing actually worked. However, I'm now opening another ticket to get a new chassis - oh, joy!

Anyone else have this happen to their chassis?

never had that happen to me or heard about it, could be you were unlucky....

Swapped 2 fan trays in 3 years,no problems.

I've had 15 8010s for 4 years and replaced one fan module and 3-4 power supplies. I've had more problems with bad PCMCIA flash cards than anything else, and have switched to Lexar compact flash memory with PCMCIA adapters because of it. BTW: I read in a recent set of release notes that there are issues with booting off of SanDisk compact flash cards.

Well, due to NT having some logistics computer issues I now have two 8606 chassis sitting on the floor, waiting for the time I want to kill my network.
