PowerPoint97: Save as HTML unavailable 1

The computer is running Windows 98SE with Office97 SR-2b. In PowerPoint, the 'Save as HTML' option is grayed out.

The MS Knowledgebase article Q169934 addresses the issue, and contains two solutions. Solution#1:Make sure Web Page Authoring (HTML) component is installed. I checked and it was, so I uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted. No go. Solution #2: clear out the 3 ppt2html.* files, plus the ppt2html folder in the registry, and reinstall PowerPoint. I tried this, verified files are the same, but the option is still grayed out.

I am trying to think if there are other system files that might affect proper installation of the Web Page Authoring component. What else can I try?

When things are grayed out, starting by checking your options to see if something is turned off. I spent half a day trying to figure out why an option was grayed out in Word; turned out something was indeed turned off.

I finally found the resolution. The problem is a conflict between PowerPoint97 and Adobe Acrobat 4.0.5. Both programs have to be uninstalled, then reinstall ppt97, and "Save as HTML" is available.

By the way, the MS knowledgebase has an article on this (Q262321), but the instructions in the article say to uninstall Acrobat, and reinstall it with "Acrobat PDFMaker" unchecked (uninstalled). I tried this first, but my version of Acrobat does not allow custom installations, so it was necessary to uninstall and reinstall ppt97.
