Hallo,
here is the problem: I would like to insert a avi movie into a powerpoint presentation but the program tell me is not a valid format. I obtained this avi file by coding a dvd (.vob) to a mp4 by using Nero, and then to a avi by using another program. Does someone has some suggestions on how to proceed: it seems impossible to get a proper avi file from a dvd...

If you double-click the avi does it play outside of powerpoint?

The question should be [red]Is it worth trying to do?[/red] not [blue] Can it be done?[/blue]

This from Austin Meyers' FAQ on Multimedia:

"If you have a Multimedia file you want to test for compatibility try using the MCI Media Player. To do so click Start – Run, and in the command line type "mplayer.exe" (or "mplay32.exe" for WinNT) and click
OK. This starts the MCI Media Player. Yes, it’s the same one you were used to in earlier versions of Windows. Remember, I said the MCI has been around a long time. Now with File – Open, navigate to the file you want to test and see if it plays properly. If it does, it should work in PowerPoint just fine, if it doesn’t play correctly it will NOT work in PowerPoint. Folks it’s a simple test and can save you from hours of hair pulling and low level cursing."

You may have a codec problem with your AVI.

karerda,

Austin Meyers has also coded together a utility to take the hassle out of putting various video media into powerpoint ... see

It will either sort out your existing avi file, or play your original dvd

Convert your avi to a wmv or mpeg, as powerpoint likes this type the best these days....

for converting I use VidLogo
