Does anybody know why the hyperlink button and the corresponging menu item should be disabled in PowerPoint 2000?

The Help file is, well, unhelpful. The troubleshooting section assumes you have been able to insert a hyperlink, but I can't even do that...

Any help gratefully received.

Paul: Hyperlinks can only be inserted "into" an object. Try drawing a box or selecting an existing graphic or textbox, or type the text, like and select THAT text...

Anyway, once you select something, the insert hyperlink button should become available!

Thanks, Dreamboat. I did eventually twig this answer, but you'd have thought that PowerPoint could automatically give you a textbox or something...

Cheers
